My name is Tim Arvizu, timvanarv@cs.com, and I served in Hq Company 1st Battalion 39th Infantry as CO's tango and company mail clerk. I served from Oct 1965 to Oct 1967.Thanks, Tim, for that update. I've forwarded your contact details to some of the fellows who served with 1/39 Inf (M) back in the mid-to-late 1960s, and with luck you'll run into some guys you knew back at H D Smith Barracks or perhaps even Taukkunen Kaserne.
In October 1965 I was assigned to Hq Company, 1st Battalion 39th Infantry, 8th Infantry Division. The 39th at that time was located at Taukkunen Kaserne in Worms Germany on the Rhine.
Shortly after my arrival, I was assigned to drive for Capt. Jasper Williams, the Hq.Co. Commandant. After Capt Williams was reassigned my new CO was Capt Charles Lowe. I must say, I believe these to be among the best COs a soldier could ever serve under.
As a member of Paddy's Gang I also had the pleasure of serving with great guys like L. Murphy, Mike Uchida, L. Marquess, L. Brown, C. Pruit, D. Samluk, J. Willoughby, J. Robinson, Byrnes and Joe Branson and many more.
By the way, it was in mid or late 1966 that the 1st of the 39th relocated to Baumholder.
