The S-3 Shop, Paddy's Gang, 1988-1989

Here are two operations officers who served with 1/39 Inf (M) in Baumholder between 1986 and 1989:

Major Bryant
Major Rodolfo R. Diaz-Pons
If memory serves, Major Bryant left in early 1987.

Major D-P left in mid/late 1989, after the redesignation to 4/12 Inf (M). I've written of Major D-P before and intend to add a brief note on him in the future, as he was one of the most focused, forceful guys I've ever met. He serves as an enduring example to me even after all these years.

Here's some news of SFC Donovan from 1989, as well.

Here are a few more names from the cheese factory:

LTC (Taz) Shelverton
SGT Rick Wagner
SP4 Greg Boyer
LT Deane Shephard

God, it’s been a while. I was first in Alpha Co the winter of 87, with Lt Ginn, SSG Eck, SGT Berk but was shortly thereafter recruited to work in the S-3 shop and drive for LTC Shelverton. This later landed me in Wildflecken with the 8th ID LRS detachment.

Another name I remembered is SFC (Red) Strickland. Does anybody know what happened to him? He was a maintenance guy if I remember correctly. After his stent in S-3 he went up to run the motorpool.

Jim,

I do remember SFC Stickland, but I don't know what happened to him. When I get back to the office next week and can find my address book, I'll see if George Thomas knows.

There was a Strickland killed or injured in the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon but Deane didn't think it was our one.
