Having spent a fair bit of time traversing the web in search of amateur historical research about the 8th ID, 1/39 Infantry, Baumholder MILCOM as well as the whole range of USAREUR / USAFE units and their post-war predecessors, I've found Walter Elkins' site (US Army in Germany) to be unparalleled. I defy you to go there for the first time and spend less than an hour.
