Steve Vangunda, Weapons Platoon, Charlie Co 1/39 Inf 1978-1980

News today from Steve Vangunda, who left a comment on the post "CPT Tim Flanagan, 1978 - 1981":

CPT Flanagan was my PL in C 1/39 wpns plt in 78 or so.

I can't confirm at this point, but after a quick internet search I think Steve later went on to continue doing cool things in the USAF.

As ever, comments are open, be sure to leave a contact email.

Jack Boy, Baumholder FRG 1970s, 1980s and ???

Here's an anonymous (but familiar) story for all of you 1/39 Inf vets:

Jack Boy was hilarious! We would wait until they sped past us and then whistle and they would slam on the brakes and drive in reverse about 90 mph. Of course we would buy a sausage sandwich but it was worth the laugh.

I hope the Jack Boy owner and drivers all retired as millionaires with palaces in Majorca.

AAAO!

John OHearn 1/39th Mess Hall 1985-1988

Well, fellows, I couldn't have put it any more concisely than John did:

John OHearn 1/39th Mess Hall 1985-1988

I ate better in Baumholder than I did at home. Thanks, John.

Paddy's Gang - 1/39 Infantry

Welcome!

There are a couple of ways you can make yourself known here at the 1/39 Inf Web Beacon. The easiest way is to simply enter your details (including a long-term email address) in the comments section of a relevant post. That will allow search engines like Google to find you, and makes it possible for you to do searches of your own and find other vets in these pages. Or, if you'd like to send me some words, photos -- YES, PHOTOS, PLEASE -- and stories for a specific post of your own, then by all means contact me directly.

I do have to admit that I tend to work very, very slowly, and post very, very rarely now that this old technology has been overtaken by social media sites such as Facebook, Military.com etcetera.

Of course, I'll keep all of these posts on this site so long as Blogger.com remains in operation.

Naturally, I won't pass your details along to spammers or scammers. And I'm not selling anything, either.

Meanwhile, if you're still in touch with anyone from those days, I'd be grateful if you would forward them an email with a link to this website, and be sure to raise a glass in honor of the times we had while serving with Paddy's Gang all those many years ago.

AAAO!

p.s. if you were also with 4/12 Inf (M), be sure to visit that web beacon as well.
