Richard Gomer (MSG USAR RET), 1st Bn 39 Inf, Co A 4th Platoon, 1971-1972

Another one from our Viet Nam era veterans, Richard Gomer. Many of the fellows from his time speak of hard times in the 1970s Army in Germany, but Richard has a different view:

1Bn 39Inf Co A 4th Pl 1971-1972

I was in Co. A, 4th platoon from May 1971 to October 1972.

I remember Capt Lalli, of course, and "Snoopy" from the motor pool.

I was a draftee and more than happy to be there and not in Viet Nam. I was in the Army Reserve for 30 years after active duty. Met my wife in the reserves. Got the wife and a very nice pension. Turned out getting drafted was one of the best things that ever happened to me.

What a fascinating time in our history.

AAAO!

Update: vale Richard Gomer, April 7, 1949 - June 19, 2025. Rest in peace, brother.
