Andrés A. Rolón Rodríguez, Bravo Co, 1973 - 1975

Today's mail brings me a very short message from Andrés A. Rolón Rodríguez, who served with 2nd Platoon, Bravo Co during 1973, 1974 and 1975. From all I've heard, those were hard days for the unit (and for the Army, especially in Germany). We rarely get mail from fellows who were with Paddy's Gang at that time, so I'm always glad to hear more news and any stories you all might have to share.

Be sure to let me know if you'd like to get in touch with Andrés.

AAAO!

UPDATE: bumping this one in honor of Otero, Negron, Rivera, William Barbosa and of course Andrés A. Rolón Rodríguez himself.

I was a member of B Co. 1/39th from 02/73 - to 06/76. Rodriguez was correct whe he said it was a rough period. A fairly high percentage of the soldiers were smoking hash, drinking like alcoholics, and a few were shooting heroin. There were soldiers being beat up by other soldiers every month, sometimes thrown out of 2nd floor windows. The guys that lived in quarters were lucky because they could escape before dark. Those of us that were living in the barracks were living the experience all night. That was the part of my tour that I didn't like.

But I like remembering the good friends and experiences I had. I got there when i was 17, and left right before my 21st birthday.

I was there during this time also. I had never seen anything like what I saw in the barracks on weekends. Smoke so thick you couldn't see from one end of hall to other.73-75 Alpha co.

I was a member of A Co. 1/39 Inf from 1973 to Sep 1975. I remember SP4 Rolon from B Co and other guys (Otero, Negron and a few others). I remember an incident in which Rolon was punched in the back of his head by Rivera and needed to go to the clinic in which the medics took some stitched on his ear. Baumholder back then was heavy in drugs and alcohol. Good and bad memories.

I remember all those guys, Otero, Negron, Rivera. We were always together listening music and drinking beer. Drugs and fights were rampant. Lot of good and bad memories mixed together.
