Rick Bloemhard, Paddy's Gang 1972-1975

One of the pleasures of maintaining the 39th Infantry web beacon is hearing about all the cool stuff that Paddy's Gang veterans get up to. Here's some news from Rick Bloemhard, who served with the unit during the early seventies and went on to some interesting private sector roles:
I was in HHC (later in Bravo) 1/39th from Oct '72 to Jan '75 as acting commo sarj. Kept busy driving the commo track, controlling the commo nets, swapping radios between those that worked and those that didn't (sometimes from other companies' tracks!)
Morning PT runs: "I don't know but I been told..."

Spent a lot of time in the field and at various Gasthaus' and their basement Discos drinking bier and playing foosball.  I had an apartment in Freisen and bombed back and forth in my silver 1960 Borgward Isabella Deluxe and later my blue VW Super Beetle.  Good times, good friends, good memories!

Afterwards I moved back to Vancouver, BC and lived there until 2006.  I took some more electronics training, worked in personal computers for a while and then with particle accelerators.  Now I am at Berkeley Laboratory in California.

You'll have seen comments on the site from Jerry Stern over the years. He's left me his contact details, so if you're trying to link back up with fellows from the early 70s, especially Bravo Company, drop a line and I'll do what I can to help.
