Team, here's a request for info from Lieutenant Commander Peloquin, a relative:
My name is Allen Victor Peloquin.   I am a retired Navy Lieutenant Commander.   My middle name is in honor of my Uncle, SSGT Alphonse Victor Peloquin, killed in action, 7/14/1944.
I have been trying to track down any information about my uncle's time in the 39th ID, as his records were destroyed in the fire at the National Records Repository in St Louis.  I have several snapshot pictures of him, taken while he was stationed with the 39th at Fort Bragg.  I also have the formal picture of company D, taken in March 1942.
Uncle Alphonse's body was repatriated and buried in the Alexandria National Cemetery, Pineville, Louisiana on 7/14/1948.
I would be very, very grateful for any information from any 39th vet.   I know he was involved in all the 39th's operations from Africa, to Sicily, to Normandy, but none of the details.   I have been unable to confirm any personal awards he was entitled to wear.   Given his combat time on all those ops and KIA status, I would suppose that he merits the Expert Combat Infantryman Badge and the Purple Heart.  In reading various histories of the 39th I think that they earned a MUC for Normandy ops.
Any unit history, possibly something more detailed than official unit history, from Africa to and including Normandy would be very helpful.   I would really appreciate contact with any 39th vet from WW II, especially anyone in D Company who might remember him.
I do intend to pursue daily operational records at the National Archives as soon as possible.
Thank you very much,
Allen V Peloquin
