Lieutenant Hill, 1/39 Inf (M), Baumholder FRG 1989

A month or so ago I posted a request for a memory-jogger to help me recall a few gentlemen whose names had temporarily slipped away from me, including fellows who served both with 1/39 Inf (M) and 4/12 Inf (M) in Baumholder.

SFC Richard Ito and I think are pretty sure that one of the guys from Paddy's Gang was Lieutenant Hill from Bravo Company.

If you can tell me more, I'd be grateful if you'd follow that link and get in touch.

SFC Richard Ito, US Army (Retired)

I've just had a very interesting set of emails from SFC Richard Ito. He was with 1/39 Inf (M) in Baumholder at the same time I was, including the redesignation to 4/12th Inf (M).

So, in the original spirit of this web beacon (which is to post names in the hope that people will be able to find themselves and former colleagues online), here's a super list of former members of Charlie Company 1/39 Inf (M), including a few "extras" and several guys who would also have been with 4/12 Inf (M).

1SG Joe ‘Smoking Joe’ McBride (who came to C Co from A Co)

LT Albert

LT Reyes (XO B Co)

LT Boice

SFC Kann

SFC Johnson

SFC Donovan

SSG Colvin

SSG Foster

SGT Chong

SPC Rosario

SPC Madarish

SPC Walema

SPC Chalepah

SPC Louis
Needless to say, I'm grateful to Richard for digging into his memory for this list, and I've got his email address for anyone trying to reach him.

UPDATE: Sean Carpenter, source of much knowledge, remembers that LT Reyes' full name was David Reyes. Lots ore info on the Company soldiers at http://1-39inf.blogspot.com/2007/08/sean-carpenter-alpha-company-139-inf-m.html

Kevin Alstrop, 1976-1978: AAAO!

Folks, over the holidays (during the switch to the new Google platform for Blogger, which has taken a bit of doing) I received an email from Kevin Alstrop who served with 1/39 Inf (M). As he said in the comments:

I was a member from 1976 to 1978. Looking for members of Headquarters Company and any line Company.

Anyone from Paddy's Gang in Baumholder during those days -- please drop a note in the comments. Unfortunately the comments system doesn't forward a direct email address.

Kevin, I also recommend that you try the link to the 8th ID Yahoo group and the 8th Infantry Division Association for names in general, and if there's anyone in particular you hope to reach send along the name and I'll post it.

AAAO!
